The Cima di Eötvös

( Eötvösspitze, the second highest, or south-western Cadin peak ) 2837 m.

The peak, that is only a few meters lower, than the highest, with it's enormous southern wall down to the Cadino di Maraja forms the biggest level difference in the group. It's Northern walls from the side of the Nevaio and the Forcella di Nevaio are not so high, but still from this side shows equally grand dimensions compering to the Cima Cadin di San Lucano.

The Cadin group with the Cima di Eötvös
I consider this peak to be worthy of wearing the name of Eötvös, who, since a quarter of a century has been continuously active as an explorer and discoverer. His name is connected to the first climbings of the most famous peaks of the Dolomites, like the Cima Dodici, Cima Undici and the Croda da Lago.

Nothing can be found in the literature about the first climbing of the Cima di Eötvös, though, according to guide Pietro Siorpaes it happened in 1887, when he with severeal tourists had reached the peak, after they could not have found the way to the Cima Cadin di San Lucano.

From the side of the Cadino di Nevaio the Eötvös peak was first climbed by the author with Josef Innerkofler, on the 10th of September, this year...

The climbing of the Cima di Eötvös, as an interesting route of medium difficulty is worth to repeat frequently.
